February 2018 – Peru Fronteras AAA
Coffee of the Month
This month we invite you to explore an origin that for us is new and full of potential, the South American country of Peru.
Introducing Fronteras, a cooperatively sourced selection of AAA grade Caturra, Typica and Bourbon varieties from the Cajamarca region. We’re tasting opening notes of ripe apricot and creamy praline all followed by a crisp, clean finish. This is an excellent espresso coffee that goes perfectly with milk.
Fronteras is one the oldest cooperatives in the San Igunacio district. This is our first release from this cooperative and we were impressed not only by the stand out flavour profile but also by their commitment to the environment, having Organic certification since 2008.
Last year was our first microlot release from Peru and Fronteras AAA in 2018 carries on this tradition of introducing our coffee drinkers to emerging origins. Peru is arguably specialty coffee’s best kept secrets with over 120,000 growers cultivating coffee crops on the slopes of a massive stretch of the towering Andes mountain range in ideal coffee growing environments & altitudes. With the arrival in 2017 of the Cup of Excellence competition in Peru, a new spotlight has been put on specialty coffee quality and the rewards that can come from it. As we tasted the incredible coffee at the Cup of Excellence competition in Lima in October, it only cemented our belief that Peru has huge potential with Campos Coffee in years to come. Enjoy!
